Our Story
Back in 2016, one of our project coordinators, Anuka, decided to volunteer with the non-profit organization, Fields of Dreams Uganda (https://www.fieldsofdreamsuganda.org/), with the goal to distribute computers to all 9 partner schools across the country.
Inspired by the students’ newfound access to the Internet, we thought about ways to integrate education and the students’ new technology in order to inform Ugandan girls the basics about menstruation in a digestible manner. Our solution? A video web-series named Hygiene for Hope, each specific video designed to engage with a different aspect of menstruation. After drafting scripts for six different videos, fact-checking them with a variety of doctors and local cultural experts, and gathering a small group of friends to help film and deliver them, the web series was complete. In other to further our goal of empowering young women, we included several motivational videos from public speakers and initiatives around the world. Moving forward, we will share the Hygiene for Hope website with the girls in Uganda, hoping to make a positive impact on the happiness and health of the Ugandan girls.
Our future plans include expanding the menstrual educational material on the website, as well as providing 1 USB to each of the partner schools that contains all of the information on the website, to compensate for times when Internet accessibility may be impacted.
